Ask Torah is operated by Ask Torah. You can reach a person at info@asktorah.org. That address is monitored, and it is the right place for billing problems, account lockouts, corrections, and anything else on this page.
Ask Torah answers everyday questions about Jewish law and custom in plain language, and shows you the sources it relied on so you can check them. It is educational. It is not a religious ruling and not a rabbi.
Answers are produced by a language model. The site verifies each citation against Sefaria's library before showing it, and drops any reference that does not resolve, so the sources under an answer are real sources. That is a check on the citations, not a guarantee that the answer is right, that it is complete, or that it fits your situation. Jewish law is frequently disputed, and the correct practice often depends on your community, your circumstances, and facts the site does not know about you.
For a decision that affects you personally, ask your rabbi. That includes conversion, marriage and divorce, whether a specific kitchen or utensil is kosher, mourning practice, anything with a medical or safety dimension, and anything where you would be relying on the answer rather than learning from it. Where the site can tell that a question is in that territory it will say so instead of answering, but it cannot always tell.
Do not use Ask Torah for a medical, legal, financial, or safety decision. If someone is in danger, call emergency services. Saving a life overrides essentially everything you might be asking about here.
You need an account to keep a history of your questions and to subscribe. Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account. One account per person. Don't try to break the site, scrape it wholesale, resell the answers as a service, or use it to generate material presented as rabbinic authority.
There is currently no self-serve password reset. If you are locked out, email info@asktorah.org and it will be handled by hand.
Use is metered in threads. A thread is one question plus the follow-up conversation that goes with it; follow-ups inside a thread cost nothing extra. The current free allowance, the subscription price, and exactly what a subscription includes are published on the pricing page, in numbers rather than the word "unlimited". Those numbers can change, but the page will always state them.
Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your dashboard, which opens the Stripe billing portal; cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep access through the end of the period you already paid for. Thread top-ups are one-off purchases and are not refundable once the threads have been credited, except where the law says otherwise or where something on our end went wrong — in which case email us and we will sort it out.
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
Some answers show a short list of related supplies beside them. Those are affiliate links, mostly Amazon: if you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The list is curated by hand, it sits beside the answer rather than inside it, and it never changes what an answer says. We deliberately do not link ritual items whose kosher status can't be verified from a listing — tefillin, mezuzah scrolls, and lulav and etrog sets are excluded on purpose. A link is not an endorsement that a particular item is kosher for your use; ask your rabbi, or buy from a scribe (sofer) or dealer you trust.
You keep whatever rights you have in the questions you write. You give us permission to process them in order to answer them, and to store them so your history works. Quoted source texts belong to their publishers and are shown under the licence terms Sefaria records for them. The site's own wording — the summaries, the practical steps, the design — is ours.
The site is provided as-is. We do not warrant that it will be available, accurate, or free of error, and answers may be wrong. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the site or from acting on an answer. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you actually paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability for fraud, or anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
We may update these terms; the date at the top will change, and a material change affecting subscribers will be announced on the site. We may suspend an account for abuse. You can stop using the site whenever you like, and you can ask us to delete your account — see the privacy policy.
